I read an article today about the government ordering massive amounts of food, MRE’s. These aren’t the military issue type meals but ones for civilians. Tens of thousands of dollars from one company, one hundred and forty million meals from another company and, yet, other stories of the government stocking up, the latest is a billion dollar order. Do I believe this? Yes. I have seen too many articles about this over the past five years not to believe it. But let’s look at the numbers and see if the government is really looking out for our best interest.
Guesstimating the government has stockpiled one billion meals and a nationwide catastrophe strikes, ummm let’s say our economy tanks or there is an EMP event from a solar storm or man-made bomb, one billion meals is not enough for all Americans to have Three meals! If the government was concerned about all of us they would be working to warehouse bulk foods and making arrangements for converting that to cafeteria styled meals in the event of an emergency. Out of all of the pictures that you have seen of relief efforts to disaster stricken areas, how many times did you see a prepackaged meal? None. They may be stocking up but is not for the masses ie. you and me. So, it is up to us to put away food for us and our families. What type of food do you ask? Any food is better than no food.
Don’t depend on the refrigerator and freezer. Be prepared to can or dry the food in the freezer, in case of long term power outages. You have just a few days before everything spoils, without electricity.
Dehydrated food lasts a long time is the best value for your money and, if purchased from a reliable source, will last upwards of twenty years. Check out
Canned food is a good alternative. Even though the expiration date reads “best used by” canned food does not go bad, as a rule. If the can shows signs of dents bulges etc. throw it out. Some good things about canned food is that it has its own water, is pre-cooked, you can go down to the grocery store and pick up as much as you want. Stay away from anything not canned or made in the U.S.
MRE’s are fine in a pinch but are not made for long term use. From my understanding they lack fiber and will plug you up.
Freeze dry foods are supposedly the best tasting but many have too much sodium for long term use and freeze dried foods are expensive.
It is always best to store what you eat on a normal basis. If you don’t like beans don’t store them.
You can add a few months of food to your home just by buying more of the things that you buy at the grocery store and rotating through your stock. For example if you eat peanut butter and you go though one jar every three months and the jars have an expiration date of one year from the time you shop then you could get four jars and the peanut butter would still be safe at the end of one year. During that year when you finish one jar of peanut butter you buy another and then you eat out of the next jar in line and put the newest jar in the back of the line thus rotating through your stock of peanut butter.
If you have a generator you can keep the food in the freezer and refrigerator cold. You could then look at buying meat in bulk, such as a ¼, ½ or a whole cow and freezing it.
Now would be a good time to stock up just like the government is doing.

Direct radiation is different than fallout and both must be dealt with in different ways.

Fallout is the aftermath of a nuclear ground explosion where the radiation mixes with the dirt and debris that is sucked up into the atmosphere and then deposited wherever the wind takes it. Direct radiation happens when the nuclear explosion occurs and is emitted by the detonation.

To protect against fallout you will need to pay close attention to the air you breath because fallout is basically radioactive dust. In a structure whether it is an above ground building or an underground shelter you should filter the air with an NBC filtration system. There are only a few NBC filtration system companies in the World, American Safe Room, Beth-El, Temet, Andaire and Bioquel. We can supply most of these systems. These filtration systems are specifically designed to filter out nuclear, biological and chemical air born contaminants. These contaminants are usually associated with war agents. Some chemicals that are used in standard manufacturing plants will not be filtered out by a standard  NBC filtration system  (if you can call any NBC filtration system – standard.) So if you live in a heavy industrial area and are concerned about the manufacturing plant(s) burning up you should talk to me about special filters that will filter out these contaminants, there is only one company that I know that is developing  filters for industrial chemical contaminants.

California has codes for how much cover (mass) a shelter needs to protect against fallout, they state three feet. However, I have a colleague that believes that you can protect against fallout in you home if you have an NBC filtration system and positive pressure in the house. In other words, more air coming into the house through the NBC filtration system than is going out through cracks, open windows and open doors.

You protect against direct radiation totally different than you protect against fallout. The only way to protect against direct radiation is to have mass  (earth, concrete, corn, feathers etc.) between you and the radiation. It takes at least five feet of earth (dirt) to protect you from direct radiation and a lot more feathers or corn than that. Concrete has about the same amount of mass, as a rule of thumb, as dirt. The other thing that you need to protect are the access ways into the shelter that you are in.

You can protect against radiation by the use of angles in your entryway. Two ninety degree angles and twice the distance as the diameter of your entryway tunnel will mitigate the radiation from a nuclear blast. So, if you have a six foot diameter pipe as your entryway then make your runs between the angles and the shelter 12 feet and you will be safe.

NOTE: any shelter that has less than five feet of earth cover and/or has a direct entry or an entry with only one ninety degree angle in it is ONLY a fallout shelter and NOT a shelter to protect against nuclear blasts and coronal mass ejections (CME) from the Sun.

The Need For Antibiotics

I watched a show on the History Channel about how to survive a pandemic. At the end of the show the main character died of an infection from a minor cut. This doesn’t have to happen in real life if you know what is available in over the counter remedies.

Everybody knows, or should know, about Neosporin which is a topical antibiotic. But did you know about Bag Balm? Bag Balm is used in the Veterinarian field to stop infections of cow tits. It does equally well for human wounds and has a shelf life that is in the years.

Internal antibiotics are not available without a prescription but citricidal, a grapefruit extract has helped me get over several different bacterial infections.

I have a friend who healed himself of cancer after the doctors sent him home to die. One of the things he used is wild oregano to stop bacterial infections.

Another old remedy that my Mom use to use for really bad infections was Epsom Salt soaks. Warm water/ Epsom Salt solution on a gauze pad two to three times a day will pull out most nasty infections.

There is a whole field of poultices that you can study that would help be worth studying.

By the way, if you don’t have gauze for the soaks you can use cloth, but, make sure the cloth is white. Colored cloth can cause infection in an open wound.

There are a myriad of volcanoes in the World.

There are, also, calderas such as under Yellowstone National Park. A caldera is a pool of volcanic activity that, when excited, develops multiple volcanoes. Some experts believe that the eruption of the Yellowstone caldera destroyed the dinosaurs. Experts say that an eruption form this caldera could devastate life in a 600 mile radius due to the ash cloud and upwards of thirty (30) feet of ash falling to the ground.

The other main areas that area extremely vulnerable to volcanoes, in the United States, are the Pacific Coast Line (all of the Pacific Coast Line) and Alaska.

EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) is a surge of a electro-magnetic charge that is strong enough to fry all circuitry, batteries etc..

EMP can come from three sources:

  1. Man-made, in the form a nuclear bomb (One bomb set off at high altitude (over 100,000 ft.) will cover most if not all of the United States and parts of Canada and Mexico.
  2. A Solar Event in the form of a Solar flare. The Carrington Event of September 1, 1859 would be an example of such an event. The solar flare was so strong that it set telegraph wires and telegraph offices on fire.
  3. The third way is by an earth crust shift associated with a magnetic pole shift. The basalt and minerals with a north-south orientation will seek to move toward a north-south orientation after the poles shift and the ground will actually liquefy as the ground moves up to 1200 miles.

After an EMP event expect that nothing electronic or electric will work, including city sewer systems, municipal water systems, your car, tractors, trucks generators, pumps, lights, public power, Airliners, computers, etc.. The U.S. government anticipates a 90% attrition rate due to starvation and disease in the first year.

Planet “X”

Planet “X” also called Nibiru or Nemisis or the Destroyer is a Brown Dwarf Star with the Mass of the Sun and is twice the size of Jupiter.

There are several point of view on this. NASA denies the existence of any type of planet or brown dwarf star. Others believe that there are in fact two or three objects that are all labeled Planet “X” by amateur astronomers. The thought being that there is a brown dwarf star that has an obit that gets close enough to the solar system to disturb asteroids and meteors from the Oort Cloud, a spherical cloud of asteroids and meteors surrounding our solar system. It will, also, get close enough to effect gravitation forces, magnetic forces and other forms of energy on all of the planets and our Sun resulting in earthquakes, volcanoes, magnetic pole shift etc.. The resultant issues that we would have to plan and prepare for are tsunamis, solar winter ( similar to the mini Ice Age of the 1700’s,) food shortages, radiation from the Sun, EMF or EMP from the Sun, earth crust liquefaction, high velocity winds (in excess of 300 m.p.h.)

The expectation from experts is that it will:

  1. Go through the solar system
  2. Come near our solar system
  3. There are actually two celestial bodies that have orbits of 3,600 years and 25,000 years and they are both headed toward our solar system and will impact it over the next ten years.
